The Paraparaumu
Volunteer Fire Brigade was formed on 26 June 1948 and the inaugural meeting was
held in the picture theatre at Paraparaumu and at that time was commanded by a
Superintendent. The Brigade was known
as the Paraparaumu District Volunteer Fire Brigade and was under the control of
the Hutt County Council. In 1974 the
Borough of Kapiti was formed and the administration of the brigade moved to
that Borough. more....
The station attends
over 500 calls each year to a wide range of emergencies and assists our
neighbouring brigades, Paekakariki and Waikanae at motor accidents, car fires, structure and vegetation fires. The brigade, as a unit of the New Zealand
Fire Service can also be called upon to assist other brigades in a much wider
area. We have assisted Otaki, Porirua,
Plimmerton and Wellington stations at fires and accidents. The station has two Type 3 Fire Appliances,
a Pump known as Paraparaumu 371, a Pump/Rescue Tender known as Paraparaumu 377
and an Operational Support unit known as Paraparaumu 3726.
Enquiries to
becoming a volunteer member of the brigade should contact the Deputy Chief Fire
Officer Trevor Moss on Monday nights during our training from 1900hrs, at the
station 22 Te Roto Drive, Paraparaumu.
Employer Recognition
The Paraparaumu
Volunteers would not be able to provide a service to the community without the
support and generosity of members’ employers.
Though a large portion of our call-outs are at nights, emergencies are
not dictated by normal working hours and some calls are during work hours. A number of our employers allow their staff
to attend day-time calls and we wish to acknowledge their contribution by way
of this website, as part of our overall Employer Recognition Programme. A special thank you to all our employers and
while we do not endorse any products or services of the businesses, we are
highly appreciative of the support they give us and hope you may consider
contacting them if ever in need of services they may provide.
We also acknowledge employers who may not be
in a position to allow time off at no notice but may contribute to the safety
of their community through granting time off for training or public relations,
or by making financial donations to the brigade, or simply by letting someone come
in to work a little late to allow them some extra rest after a over night call!
Firefighter’s Prayer
When I am called to duty, God,
wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late,
or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert, and hear the weakest shout,
quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling, to give the best in me,
to guard my friend and neighbour, and protect his property.
And if according to Your will I must answer death's call,
bless with Your protecting hand, my family one and all.
Amen.
